Mojalefa Modise and Patrick Bochedi appeared in the Hennenman Magistrate’s Court in the Free State on Monday.

They are accused of killing farmer Pieter Hills and  his son Eddie earlier this month.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Free State Phaladi Shuping says the suspects’ legal representatives dropped the bail application.

“The case was set for bail application today at Hennenman Magistrate’s Court but during the appearance of the accused their legal representatives informed the court that they have taken a decision to abandon the bail application.

“Apparently information came  forth that the legal representative wants to verify, because he is of the view that information is very crucial in his application for bail. That is why he has taken the decision to abandon the bail.”

Shuping says the case has been postponed to next month.

“The case was postponed to 9 December for further investigation. The charges against the accused are two counts of murder, one count of robbery with aggravated circumstances and one count of conspiracy to robbery.

“The initial charge was attempted murder, but we unfortunately received information that the son passed away, so that is why the charge of attempted murder has now been changed to that of murder.”
