Additional staff to be deployed at ports of entry
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
A total of 255 additional staff will be deployed at all ports of entry across the country.
Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has outlined the department's plans for the festive season, which include extended operating hours at our borders.
With OR Tambo being the busiest airport on the continent, Gigaba says 92 additional staff members will start work tomorrow.
"They start at 6.00am until 11.00am which is a peak period for flights arriving every day. They will then return at 4.00pm and work until 8.00pm," says Gigaba.

He also had some advice for those traveling with children.
"We encourage South African citizens to apply for birth certificates when they apply for child passports. Going forward details of parents will be printed in the passports, except in instances where they are travelling to a country which requires an unabridged birth certificate," says Gigaba.
