Earlier in the year, President Cyril Ramaphosa put the province under administration due to its financial problems and poor service delivery.

The province was hit by a spate of protests, with residents demanding the removal former premier Supra Mahumapelo.

Mahumapelo remains the chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in North West.

Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, says the death threats have been reported to the Hawks in the province.

"We have not really been able to identify the source of the threats," says  Ngesi.

He adds the premier’s office believe the threats are based on the work the government has mandated the administrators to do.
