Affies mourns death of stellar pupil

Pupils at the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool in Pretoria are mourning the death of pupil Ian Visser.

The matriculant apparently committed suicide on Monday.
Police spokesperson Augastina Selepe says an inquest docket has been opened into the teen’s death.
According to a statement from the prestige school, Ian was an outstanding pupil.
He was bestowed honorary colours for culture following his involvement in music, Eisteddfods and ATKV public speaking and debating.
"Affies remember Ian for his spontaneity, his kindness and his talent in so many areas of school life," the school said in a statement.
Ian was also a prefect and part of the school’s hockey team.
"Affies honours his memory with beautiful memories."
Meanwhile, psychologist Tienie Martiz has encouraged parents to make an effort to have conversations with their children around the pressures of society.
“Maybe we Google a lot, and we on WhatsApp a lot, but we don’t get down to good talking and good chatting and really sharing emotional issues with each other. There is an increase worldwide in suicide, not just South Africa.”
