AfriForum demands R500K from Lesufi over racism remark

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has been served a letter of demand by AfriForum over his claims that the lobby group is a racist organisation.

He allegedly made the comments during an interview last month, following his election as ANC chairperson in Gauteng.
Lesufi has until Friday to pay R500 000 or he will need to defend his comments in court.
Afriforum CEO Kallie Kriel says the MEC has previously made the same type of allegations against the organisation.
“We wanted to sue Lesufi because of his statement back in November 24, 2019, that AfriForum had attempted to assassinate him and had been stalking his children.
“When we started legal action, he apologized, settled with us and promised engage Afriforum constructively.
“But he has gone against that agreement, which is why we are resuming with our case, he will have to pay R500 000 and apologize to us.”
