South African Afro-pop singer Lerato Molapo, popularly known as Lira, has been hospitalised after suffering a stroke while in Germany for a performance.
Her family confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday evening.
The family confirmed that Lira’s ability to communicate and in particular her speech has been impacted.
“She is currently undergoing treatment here in South Africa, led by the best medical team available. Her medical team has advised that her journey to recovery will require patience and therefore, it is unlikely that she will be able to perform in the short term,” said the family in a statement.
The 43 years old is said to be in good spirits and surrounded by her family and close friends as she journeys toward a full recovery.

Lira is one of the kindest people I’ve ever come across in the entertainment industry. We can disagree on a lot of things but not on her work ethic and how seriously she takes her craft. News about her health are devastating. I challenge all believers to #PrayForLira. SIYEMA!!! pic.twitter.com/aFANUakraX
