WITS PROTEST - The council of the University of Witwatersrand will convene a special meeting tonight, to discuss the proposed increase in registration fees at the university.
Students have been protesting since Wednesday and have vowed to stage a sit in through the night in protest against the 10,5% increase in registration fees.
Wits Vice Chancellor Adam Habib says he's not the right person to address registration fee issues...
Former Wits SRC chairperson Mcebo Dlamini says they will wait until after the meeting, to hear what the council has decided...
HLAUDI MOTSOENENG - The SABC has charged its COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng with misconduct ahead of his disciplinary hearing at the end of the month.
This comes after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld a ruling by the High Court in the Western Cape that disicplinary steps be taken against Motsoeneng and that he be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
The charge sheet, compiled by the SABC board chairperson, includes charges of dishonesty, misconduct and abuse of power.
Should he be found guilty, the SABC will request that strong action be taken against him, which may include dismissal.
JOHN BLOCK - The ANC Northern Cape's chairperson, and former MEC for Finance, John Block, has resigned.
This comes after he was found guilty on charges of corruption, fraud and money laundering in the Northern Cap High court earlier this week.
Kenny Mmoeimang will act as party chairperson, while Block's position as MEC will also be temporarily filled.
Mmoeimang says Block did the right thing when he decided to step down...
KING DALINDYEBO - AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo's bail has been extended to allow him to lodge his leave to appeal application in the Constitutional Court.
Dalindyebo was convicted of kidnapping, assault, arson as well as defeating the ends of justice earlier this month.
