MANDELA GRANDSON RAPE CASE POSTPONED - The 24-year old grandson of former President Nelson Mandela will spend the weekend behind bars, after his legal team and the State agreed that his case should be postponed until 25 August. 


He stands accused of raping a 15-year old girl at a restaurant in Johannesburg. 


The Johannesburg Regional Court also heard today that the grandson has a pending assault charge against him. 


The National Prosecuting Authority's Phindi Louw says the case has been postponed so that the State could get hold of the identity document of the victim to confirm her age...


 


SHADRACK SIBIYA - A disciplinary hearing into Gauteng Hawks boss Shadrack Sibiya recommended that he should be fired. 


Sibiya was found guilty of misconduct for sanctioning an operation which led to the rendition of four Zimbabwean suspects in 2010. 


The hearing said that, although the Hawks boss did not participate in the arrest and rendition, he still knew about it and let it go forward. 


Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says they are busy with the process of removing Sibiya from his position...


 


RAND WATER STRIKE - The Municipal Workers Union will consult with members about a new a wage offer tabled by Rand Water, following the Labour Court's ruling that the two parties should find a solution on the wage negotiations that deadlocked. 

Samwu members are demanding a wage increase of between 8 and 10% and are threatening to strike, while Rand Water is only offering a 7% increase. 


Sanwu's Chumani Gqeke says they will have a definite answer on the latest offer from their members by tomorrow...



The City of Tshwane, meanwhile, says they have contingency plans in place should the Rand Water employees embark on a strike.
