NUM STRIKE - About 30,000 coal workers from mineworkers union NUM will go on strike, after talks between the Chamber of Mines and unions in the coal sector ended in a deadlock. 


The NUM wants a R3 000 increase across the board which would bring the lowest paid workers up to R8 000 a month. 


The NUM's chief negotiator in the coal sector, Peter Bailey, says they will now talk with their members and the strike can go ahead as soon as Saturday, if the workers give their intent to strike...



ANTI CORRUPTION MARCH - Zwelinzima Vavi says normal South Africans have to stand up against corruption in our society.

ETOLLS VICTORY FOR WCAPE - Roads agency Sanral is dissapointed following the court's judgement to set aside decisions concerning the procedure to toll the N1 and N2 highways in the Western Cape. 


The judgment was handed down in the Western Cape High Court this morning. The court ruled that Sanral will have to start from scratch with a proper public participation process if they want to toll sections of the freeways.

UMALUSI READY FOR EXAMS - The council for quality assurance, Umalusi, says there will be severe consequences for matrics involved in irregularities during the final exams, which start at the end of October. 


Umalusi has booted up on their monitoring administration of the examinations that will be written by approximately 800,000 matriculants.
