This forms part of the ongoing investigations against the 49-year-old, who is accused of killing her son Kutlo, and her niece Bonolo Modiseemang to cash in on insurance policies.

Setshwantsho was arrested in November last year during a sting operation in Centurion and made her first appearance in a Mmabatho court the next day.

She faces charges of fraud, murder and defeating the ends of justice after allegedly pocketing R3 million following Modiseemang.

Setshwantsho's police officer husband, Justice Setshwantsho, died under mysterious circumstances in 2016.

North West Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said the exhumation seeks to further probe Setshwantsho's cause death.

"We can confirm the exhumation of the late warrant officer Setshwantsho's body and the subsequent conducting of the autopsy by forensic pathologists, to confirm the cause of death are under way.

"The late warrant officer was allegedly killed by his wife who has been arrested for the murder of her son and niece” he said.

Speaking to the SABC the deceased's brother Itireleng Setshwantsho said all they want is to know the truth about what led to his brother's death.

"We agreed to the exhumation as a family because we want to know whether Justice's death was because of natural causes, or was it caused by something else.

He has called for more exhumations as they suspect Setshwantsho may be linked to the death other relatives, including her two daughters.

"We want these investigations to dig deeper, because we want to know exactly what kind of person Segomotsi [Agnes] is. It's painful that my brother had to be exhumed."

Tests run on the remains of Kutlo Setshwantsho in Kuruman revealed that he died from unnatural causes.

The accused remains in custody after her bail application was denied in January.
