Agriculture Department working to contain locust outbreaks in 3 provinces
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development has sent officials to the three provinces hit by an outbreak of locusts.
The department announced on Wednesday that the Free State, Northern Cape and Western Cape are experiencing swamps of locusts.
To make matters worse, strong winds are aiding the spread of locusts across the country.
“We would like to urge our farmers and members of the community if the spot any swamps of locusts to please report to our officials so that we can be able to control them on time,” says Agriculture Minister Thoko Didiza.
“Our officials are already on the ground, they are addressing the challenge that we are facing.”
