Air Chefs to join SAA strike
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
Air Chefs has served South African Airways (SAA) with a notice of intent to embark on a secondary strike on Monday.
This as the strike by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the South African Cabin Crew Association entered its sixth day on Wednesday.
Workers are demanding an 8% increase while the national carrier said it could only afford a 5.9% pay hike.
Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says the secondary strike is not only going to impact SAA but many other airlines.
Hlubi-Majola says SAA has declared war after backtracking an offer at the eleventh hour during talks between trade unions and management on Tuesday.
"This is a war against corruption and looting, its a war against poor management, we need to save this airline, we will not allow it to be privatised without a fight."
