AKA murder ‘mastermind’ tells court money was ‘business transaction’
The man alleged to be the mastermind in the murder of rapper AKA and his friend Tebello Motsoane claims that over R800 000 that the State alleges was payment for the killings was a business transaction from a reputable company.
Mziwethemba Gwabeni and four other men are applying for bail in the Durban Magistrate's Court.
Gwabeni told the court on Tuesday that the money he received on the day Kiernan Forbes and Tebello Motsoane were killed was for consulting work and bulk buying.
He claims his relationship with the company goes back three years, adding the money he received wasn’t a once-off payment.
The 36-year-old told the court that one of his businesses is a construction company with a security division.
He said he had employed some of his co-accused as security guards.
Gwabeni claims he transferred some of the money to some individuals as he had not paid them in quite some time.
The State alleges he paid accused number five, Lindokuhle Ndimande, R100,000 but Gwabeni responded that the State is relying on coincidence.
The bail hearing will continue next Wednesday.
