This comes after weeks of protests in the township over service delivery and illegal structures built on public land, against current bylaws.

The task team is made up of three spheres of government - national, provincial and local.

Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) spokesperson, Musa Zondi, says the task team looked at the progress that has been achieved so far and measures put in place.

"It was agreed that things that need to be done immediately, they should be done. These include ramping up policing, making sure that the bylaws are effected (sp) as well as making sure that a proper clean-up of the place happens immediately," says Zondi.

Zondi says the task team is also expected to work on a long-term plan to ensure stability in the area in the north of Johannesburg.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs, Siyabonga Cwele, on behalf of the IMTT convenor, CoGTA Minister Zweli Mkhize, who was accompanying President Ramaphosa to KwaZulu-Natal to visit flood-hit areas.
