All Joburg metro cops on point duty during peak-hour load shedding – Tembe
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
MMC for Community Safety in Johannesburg David Tembe says all metro police officers will have to report for point duty during peak hour load shedding.

Tembe says this should happen between 6:00 and 9:00 and between 15:00 and 18:00 on days when Eskom implements power cuts
"All the metro police, whether you are a by-law unit or wherever you are working from 6:00 to 9:00, no speed trap, no by-law enforcement, except if they respond to a special incident, they have to do the point duty. We can't have these youngsters who are controlling traffic. You go to Fourways and they are controlling traffic. Some of them are doing a good job I can tell you but we can't have them there.

"From 16:00 to 18:00 hours, all metro police have to do the point dutry because during a certain time you will find that there is criminality. People are stuck in traffic and then there is smash and grab. So we need to avoid it and our job is crime prevention. If we let those things happen and say it is loadshedding, then we suffer too."
The call by Tembe comes as struggling power utility Eskom, again implemented load shedding until Thursday.
On Tuesday the power utility implemented stage 2 loadshedding after losing generating units at Duvha, Kendall and Kriel power stations.
