Allandale Road maintenance ‘won’t impact on traffic’
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Efforts to rehabilitate Allandale Road in Midrand is set to begin on Monday but the provincial government doesn’t believe it will have a major impact traffic.
Gauteng Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC Jacob Mamabolo briefed the media on Saturday.
He said the project will be conducted in two phases.
The first phase is to construct a bypass which is expected to take at least two weeks.
"A temporary bypass will be constructed to allow road maintenance to be executed, to accommodate the flow of traffic and to avert closure of the road for the period of the maintenance work," he said.
The second phase of the project, which is expected to begin shortly after the first phase, will include the construction of a dual-carriageway on Allandale Road towards Kayalami.
"The current state of deterioration of the road requires an urgent intervention through road maintenance, rehabilitation and that further delays on this will have a severe impact on the road users," Mamabolo explained.
