Alleged cop killer's case postponed

Five suspects arrested in connection with the murder of a Western Cape police officer appeared briefly in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court in Cape Town on Monday.

The four men and a women, aged between 26 and 31, were arrested in Mfuleni on Saturday morning for allegedly murdering Sergeant Xolsa Mlindwa.


Mlindwa's body was found next to his car in Faure Road, Mfuleni, last Monday. He had multiple gunshot wounds.


Mlindwa, 41, was stationed at the Gugulethu police station.


During the arrests two firearms were recovered. One was Mlindwa's.


The case against the five suspects was postponed to July 14 for police to gather information for a bail hearing.


Two other police officers, Sergeant Sibongile Ngcawuzele, 37, and Constable Monwabisi Khaka, 33, were shot dead last Sunday while on duty in Nyanga.


Their service pistols were also stolen. No arrests had yet been made.
