Alleged copper cable thieves remanded in custody
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Four alleged copper cable thieves are due back in the Potchesfstroom Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail hearing next week.
The men appeared briefly in court yesterday and the matter was postponed, and the accused were ordered to remain in custody.
They were apprehended following a swift response by the Flying Squad on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said three of the suspects are believed to be from Johannesburg, while the fourth suspect is from Zimbabwe.
“Police received and operationalised information about a Nissan NP200 vehicle, which was carrying copper cables. The vehicle was stopped along Nelson Mandela Street by members of Potchefstroom Flying Squad for a search.
“Consequently, six bags containing copper cables were found in the vehicle. The accused were then arrested” he said.
