Ngcebo Thusi is accused of killing Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) student Ntokozo Xaba.
Bail proceedings in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court had to be postponed on Tuesday due to technical glitches with the court’s recording machines.
The 23-year-old faces charges of premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice after his arrest in February this year.
The problems with the court’s recorders have reportedly been ongoingbsince Monday.
“The matter was initially set down for today for formal bail application. Your worship, at this stage we are informed by the clerks that the machines are not working; they are not recording,” state prosecutor Mashudu Nembulunge told the presiding magistrate.
Thusi’s lawyer did not object to the state’s request, confirming that he had witnessed the same challenges during his other appearances in the regional court.
Xaba’s lifeless body was discovered at her off-campus residence in Pretoria the morning after she was last seen with her alleged killer at her flat.
Last month the state said the evidence before it suggests that Thusi had planned his ex-girlfriend’s murder.
