Suspected Durban drug lord Yaganathan Pillay died in a local hospital after being shot in his Shallcross home on Monday, police have confirmed.

The man known as ‘Teddy Mafia‘ allegedly received two guests at his home when the altercation broke out.
The unknown men were shot and killed, according to police.
Community unrest erupted in the area after the shooting, with the men beheaded and set alight.
The 62-year-old suspected drug kingpin had apparently told his daughter that he was expecting the visitors.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker says Pillay succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
"The community apprehended both suspects and they set them alight thereafter beheading the both of them. When police officers arrived at the scene the community opened fire at them. Police called in the Public Order Policing Unit who dispersed the crowd with no injuries.
"The owner of the property, ‘Teddy Mafia’, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Police did not seize any firearms at the scene. At this stage, it is unknown if the suspects were on foot or in a vehicle. Police will investigate three dockets of murder."
Pillay was arrested in April last year following a raid in his home. This after police found unlicensed firearms, R700 000 cash, and gold and silver coins estimated at R250 000.
Pillay was granted R5 000 bail at the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court after a three-day hearing.
His son was also gunned down in a drive-by shooting in March last year.
