The Johannesburg High Court on Friday set down October 4 for the start of Ntuthuko Shoba’s trial.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is adamant that the state is ready to proceed.

“We have already disclosed the contents of the docket to the defence team,” said provincial spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.

Last week Shoba asked the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court to stop his transfer to the Johannesburg prison, citing security concerns.

Shoba alleged he had received death threats from Muzikayise Malepane, who is serving 20 years in Johannesburg Prison for carrying out Pule's murder.

But the former JSE analyst was dealt a double blow this week when the court ruled that he be transferred to the Johannesburg Prison and be kept in a single cell.

His lawyer Shaddy Sithole also withdrew from the case.

Shoba is now tipped to make a third bail application after two unsuccessful bids.

Speaking after Friday’s proceedings, Pule’s uncle Tumisang Katake told media the family was eager for Shoba to get his day in court.

“It’s a mixed emotion but you’ll never really know what to expect with Mr Shoba,” said Kakate.

“Again he’s considering to apply for bail but we’ll see as long as it’s just within the time between now and the 4th of October, they can do anything.”
