Amcu latest to lash out at DA billboard

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) has lashed out at the DA for using the names of the victims of the Marikana massacre in its latest campaign.
The DA launched its #TheANCIsKillingSA campaign in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday.
The billboard features the names of the victims of the Marikana massacre, the Life Esidimeni tragedy and children who had died after falling into pit toilets.
Amcu president Joseph Mathunjwa says while they respect the DA’s right to freedom of expression, it’s disappointed at the party’s use of the Marikana victims for political gain.
"We are really disappointed by the manner in which and how the DA leader (Mmusi Maimane) has conducted himself, by putting the names of the victims (on the billboard). As a black person we would've expected him to respect such cultural protocol.
Mathunjwa says the ANC government must also shoulder some of the blame, as it failed to take “speedy ownership of their political miscarriage in the Marikana massacre”.
"If the could've taken ownership and do the right thing and this would it have exposed or given an opportunity for any political party that seeks to gain the political mileage of Marikana.”
Mathunjwa says if the DA wants to assume power after this year’s elections it should remove the billboard and restructure their wording.
