Amcu members were arriving at Anglo American Platinum's (Amplats) Thembelani mine near Rustenburg on Friday, where the union's president Joseph Mathunjwa was expected to speak.
"We cannot march because we do not have a permit. We are transporting members in cars. It is a logistical challenge but they will be here," said Tebogo Lebeko, Amcu education chairman at the company's Khuseleka mine.
Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union members from Amplats' Frank one shaft braved the scorching heat by marching for 10 kilometres while singing.
Dressed in green Amcu T-shirts they sang: "A go lowe ga ba ba tle go buisana" [Let us fight, they do not want to talk].
Amcu members downed tools on Friday in protest over the retrenchment of 3300 workers.
