Analyst: De Lille's political party to fill a void in politics
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Political Analyst Ralph Mathekga believes the new political
party by former Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille, has the potential of
securing a few seats in the National Assembly after the 2019 national
elections.

On Sunday, De Lille announced that she will launch a new political party to contest the 2019 elections in all 9 provinces.
Mathekga says the way the Democratic Alliance (DA) handled the De Lille exit from the party, has enabled her to walk away with a small part of the DA.
"Those councillors that left with her have cast aspersions on the DA's electoral prospects and in a way a bit of legitimacy to De Lille," says Mathekga.
He believes De Lille's history and political credentials will secure a few seats in parliament.
He adds De Lille's moving from one political party to the next will not impact on her potential voters.
De Lille was the member of Pan Africanist Congress of Azania before forming her own party, the Independent Democrats, and then merging with the DA in 2010.
"The space has presented itself for a pollical party that could progressive and stand against corruption."
