Analyst: Nene understands ANC's anti-corruption policy
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene is aware that President Cyril Ramaphosa has a program against corruption, says political analys
This comes after reports that Nene asked Ramaphosa to relieve him of his position as a cabinet minister.
Nene testified in the State Capture Commission that he met with the controversial Gupta family at their private residence.
He followed that up with a public apology, blaming his “lousy judgement for meeting the Gupta family, as well as some of their business partners at their offices while he was the deputy minister of Finance and later also the Finance Minister.
Political Analyst, Levy Ndou, says one of the African National Congress (ANC) 2017 national conference resolutions, was that the party should be seen as decisive when dealing with corruption.
"That is why Nhlanhla Nene after he has made all these revelations, has to request the president to release him of his duties," says Ndou.
He adds Nene does not want to be seen as a corrupt individual who is led by a president who tolerates corruption.
Ndou believes more heads are going to roll as the State Capture Commission unfolds.
"Because the president now is not soft on corruption."
He expects more officials to follow in Nene's footsteps and even step down from their positions.
