ANC to brief media on Gordhan, Eskom and Prasa
Updated | By Suné du Toit
The ANC will brief the media on Tuesday afternoon following a National Working Committee meeting held on Monday.
The ruling party says amongst the issues discussed were:
1. The impasse between Minister of Finance and the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (The Hawks)
Gordhan last week refused to present himself to the Hawks after he was summoned for a warning statement in connection with the so-called Sars 'Rogue Unit'. Several prominent South Africans voiced their support for the finance minister, saying President Jacob Zuma is trying to get rid of Gordhan, who has questioned funding at SAA and the proposed nuclear deal.
2. Ongoing public spat between Eskom and the National Treasury
National Treasury on Monday said its attempts to obtain information from Eskom regarding the power utility's controversial coal deal with a Gupta-owned firm has been met with continuous resistance. This in reaction to a statement by Eskom on Sunday claiming it has been co-operating with the process of reviews of the coal contracts.
3. Allegations of impropriety involving the ANC at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA)
Prasa's Chairman Popo Molefe last week claimed money was paid to the ANC as part of a R3.5 billion locomotive deal. Prasa denied this, saying no money was paid into any political party's bank account.
