ANC concerned by fluctuation of loadshedding - Mbalula
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says the party is concerned by the unstable pattern of loadshedding.
Last year Mbalula had said loadshedding would be ended by December, however, the power cuts returned this week following a festive season reprieve.
Mabula was speaking at the party's preparations for the January 8th birthday in Mbombela this weekend.
On Saturday, Eskom suspended the power cuts for a few hours and another suspension was scheduled for Sunday.
"With the signs we have seen practically, loadshedding being reduced is quite encouraging to us but nonetheless we are not at the point of celebrating, we want loadsheding gone. We are very much concerned by the fluctuation, the on and off way, we know the effects of loadshedding on the economy, we want it gone."
Mbalula says the party is anticipating the loadshedding issue to be used as political football in the upcoming elections.
"We know that loadshedding is being used, and will be used as a campaign against the ANC government. It is in our interest not only for election but South Africa as a whole that we deal with this matter, not just as a political issue, point scoring, plastering up cracks and only to find that it remains."
"We must deal with it holistically, and permanently for the sake of our economy, irrespective of whether there is an election or not."
