ANC 'concerned' over Mkhwanazi's explosive allegations
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The ANC has expressed grave concern at KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's explosive allegations about alleged political interference and mishandling of sensitive criminal investigations.

The ANC says the claims strike at the heart of public confidence in South Africa’s law enforcement institutions and the broader principle of the rule of law.
"These matters go to the core of public confidence in the rule of law and the integrity of our institutions," said ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu.
"We reaffirm our commitment to the principles of accountability, justice, and the protection of all South Africans under the law."
The party said President Cyril Ramaphosa has assured it that the matter is being addressed with the urgency it demands.
Mkhwanazi shocked the public on Sunday when he alleged that top SAPS officials, acting on instructions from Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, had withdrawn 121 high-profile political killing case dockets from KwaZulu-Natal and stalled arrest efforts.
He further suggested the move was politically motivated and accused individuals with government ties of having access to classified police documents.
The allegations have since sparked national uproar, with President Ramaphosa labelling the matter a “grave national security concern” and promising to provide further direction upon his return from the BRICS Summit in Brazil.
"The ANC is assured that President Cyril Ramaphosa is attending to this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves," said Bhengu.
Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, whom Mkhwanazi implicated in the alleged interference, has denied all allegations, saying he is prepared to take legal action to clear his name.
