ANC concerned over violence in KwaZulu-Natal
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
The head of the ANC's election campaigns, Nomvula Mokonyane, said she is worried about the recent political developments in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mokonyane addressed the media at an event on the ANC's election manifesto in Parktown on Monday morning and said it was time that leaders of the ANC put the party ahead of their egos.
Her comments come amid reports of the imminent recall of the KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu.
Mokonyane says the situation has become so bad in the province that party members turned to violence.
"Anything that hurts the ANC worries me. Anything that has the potential to divide supporters of the ANC does worry me and I'm not the only one," Mokonyane said.
Mokonyane said ANC supporters stay away from polls when they are unhappy with leadership.
"Time has come that people must put their egos aside and put the ANC first, but we must also not be stopped from dealing with our own organisational issues under the pretext of the timing," she said.
