ANC condemns mosque attack
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The African National Congress (ANC) has condemned Thursday's
attack on a mosque in northern Durban.
The party has described the attack as ghastly and vicious and says it was intended to make the community live in fear based on their religious beliefs.
One person was killed and two others were injured when three men armed with knives entered the Imam Hussain Mosque in Verulam and attacked worshippers.
The ANC's Pule Mabe says the constitution guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of religion.
"An attack on the mosque or any other place of worship must be strongly condemned as it seeks to undermine this fundamental right."
"We wish to warn the savage, merciless and barbaric perpetrators of this crime that this country will never bow down to extremism."
