ANC councillor collapses, dies during JHB inaugural council meeting

An ANC councillor in Johannesburg who collapsed during the inaugural council sitting has died.
The council sitting was adjourned following her collapse late on Monday afternoon.
The name of the deceased cannot be released at this stage, as her next-of-kin are yet to be informed of her death.
Voting for mayor was about to get underway when the councillor collapsed.
The ANC's Geoffrey Makhubo broke the news.
"She has been one of us since the 80s. She was a former member of Cosas and the Soweto Student Congress," he said.
He called for an adjournment, however it was decided voting would continue in her honour.
A moment of silence was observed.
The DA's Vasco da Gama was elected as Speaker during the sitting - with voting delayed several times.
