The Nkomazi Local Municipality councillor was gunned down in his home.

Four suspects reportedly stormed into the house, shot the 35-year-old councillor and assaulted his wife.

Police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli said the suspects fled the scene with the victim's cell phones and bakkie.

“It is further reported that the armed suspects were wearing balaclavas when they committed this act, and after shooting at the 35-year-old man, they fled with the stolen items.

“The male victim was taken by a private transport to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. No one has been arrested as yet, and the police are hard at work to ensure that suspects are sought and apprehended”.

The motive for the killing is not yet known.
