The regional leadership briefed media ahead of today's Joburg council sitting -  a sitting that could see the ANC taking the opposition benches.

No coalition agreements have been confirmed, meaning political power in the county’s economic hub is still up for grabs..

Unlike in Tshwane, the party will nominate a candidates for speaker, chief whip and mayor during the council sitting. The ANC’s Parks Tau also assured Joburg residents that the party would continue to drive service delivery, despite the possibility of being unseated,

"We will continue to serve the people of the city whether in government or in the opposition following the election results." he said.

Tau said the ANC has a proven track record when it comes to transformation – warning that the DA's agenda could have negative consequences for residents,

"Our agenda for radical spatial transformation is clear. The DA calls the city manager and this is in the words of Herman Mashaba, 'when I come in all these programmes around BEE and affirmative will be reversed...' It is our programmes that are at stake".
