ANC defeated in Mogale City

The ANC has lost its power in Mogale City with a DA-led vote coming into power on Thursday afternoon.

DA's Lynn Pannall has been announced as the new Mogale City mayor at the first council sitting.
This was one of the hung municipalities following the recent municipal elections.
The council hall echoed with cheers and applause as Pannall was voted in as the new.
All opposition parties celebrated even before the official announcement was made - as their observers silently indicated Pannall won with one vote.

Pannall said she was thrilled to take up the position of mayor.
"The wave of change has shown in the results of the local government elections. Cooperation between the DA and smaller parties has borne fruit. I am thrilled because I have a vision for change, excellence in service delivery, growing the economy and creating jobs."
ANC MP Peace Mabe was the ANC's mayoral candidate for Mogale City.
In 2014 she launched an attack against the opposition, calling DA leader Mmusi Maimane a rented black and a fake priest.
