ANC elective conference will go ahead - Mantashe
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
As the ANC's National Executive Committee meets one last time before the party's National Conference in December, the secretary general says the party will elect new leadership before Christmas.
African Nation Congress (ANC) secretary general Gwede Mantashe is confident the governing party will elect new leadership in five weeks' time.
There are fears that the ANC conference could be postponed due to legal action by disgruntled members in various provinces.
"At this point in time, there's nothing that says it will not take place. There will be a conference of the ANC on the 16th to the 20th of December," Mantashe told journalists during the special sitting of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Mantashe also insists the deadline for leadership nominations remains the 15th of November.
This despite the majority of the branch general meetings in ANC provinces having only reached the 50% mark.
