ANC hits out at NCape Premier after reshuffle

The African National Congress (ANC) has blasted Northern Cape Premier Sylvia Lucas' decision to reshuffle her provincial government, saying it was done without any consultation.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says they view Lucas' reshuffle as an abuse of her office, and one which will further divide the ANC and undermine unity of the organisation.

"Her unbridled arrogance is a betrayal of trust with the ANC - the organisation that deployed her as Premier," says Kodwa.

Kodwa says the ANC reaffirms the 52nd National Conference resolution, that consultation with the ANC structures on matters of deployment is a principle of the organisation and not a favor.

"Our deployees must desist from misusing their deployment to deepen divisions in the ANC," says Kodwa.

Lucas reshuffled her cabinet and fired two officials, Finance, Economic Development and Tourism MEC Mac Jack and Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC Pauline Williams, who are seen as her political opponents.

The urgent reshuffle took place on the eve of the ANC's provincial conference in Colesburg this weekend.
