ANC leadership to discuss Mahumapelo future
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The African National Congress' (ANC) National Working
Committee (NWC) has directed the party’s leadership
to meet with North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo to discuss the ongoing crisis
in that province.
This comes amid reports that the party will ask Mahumapelo, who is also the ANC’s provincial chairperson, to step down.
The province has been the scene of violent protests which has claimed the life of at least one person.
Residents are calling for Mahumapelo’s head amid mounting claims of corruption.
ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe, says the party’s leadership will "discuss all available constructive options to resolve the ongoing impasse".

"The NWC further considered the developments in the North West Province and reflected on the deep crisis in the NW Health Department and other departments in the province and welcomed the intervention of Cabinet in the province which is aimed at restoring good governance," Mabe says.
Cabinet recently placed the province’s health department under the administration of the national government in the wake of the protests.
Mabe says the NWC also received reports on the state of readiness for various regional and provincial conferences.
He says the green light was given to those regions and provinces which are ready and have fulfilled all the requisite processes.
