ANC mum on MPs list

The ANC says it’s not able to divulge the names of those who made it onto the party’s list of members who’ll be sent to Parliament.

The party held a media briefing at its Luthuli House headquarters in Johannesburg on Tuesday following its lekgotla at the weekend.

Questions have been raised about ministers who are mired in scandal and whether the ANC’s vetting process will preclude them from serving in the National Assembly after this year’s elections.

Minister of Environmental Affairs Nomvula Mokonyane is the latest to hit the headlines, after she was fingered by former Bosasa executive Angelo Agrizzi as one of the many government officials who were paid off by the controversial facilities management company.

He told the commission of inquiry into state capture that the company made monthly payments to Mokonyane, in addition to catering for the minister’s private Christmas parties, organising family funerals and renting luxury vehicles for Mokonyane’s daughter.

Zulu says the list will be released when the time comes.

"Secondly the African National Congress had a process of who gets into the list and that list process started at branch level and finally was concluded at a provincial level by the provincial list conferences."

Zulu says the list is being vetted to ensure that it is representative.

"Whether that list has the 50/50 principle of the African National Congress where we need to have 50 % person women, 50 % males and also does the list have youth. So as to whether who is on the list or who is not on the list is not something we can have a discussion about right now."
