ANC national working committee to pronounce on step-aside ‘soon’

The African National Congress (ANC) national working committee (NWC) will soon announce its decision on the party's so-called step-aside rule.
Party spokesperson Pule Mabe says a statement will be issued on Tuesday.
"We will issue a statement today reflecting on the outcomes of the meeting."
Earlier this month, the party's national executive committee requested that all members and officials facing criminal charges should step aside within 30 days or face suspension.

This includes the party's secretary general Ace Magashule, who has been charged with fraud and corruption related to the asbestos housing scandal in the Free State.
However, a letter floating around on social media and signed by Magashule reveals that the scope of the step-aside rule will be widened after the meeting with the NWC.
The letter states that members who should step aside should not only include those who have been charged with corruption or other serious crimes, but also those who are alleged, reported or implicated in corrupt practices.
