ANC: Ramaphosa has ‘unwavering’ commitment to fight corruption
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed its support for President Cyril Ramaphosa following the damning findings made against him by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
Mkhwebane released her report into the money given to President Ramaphosa’s ANC presidential campaign by controversial facilities management company Bosasa on Friday.
Mkhwebane found that Ramaphosa misled Parliament over the R500,000 donation and that he violated the executive ethics code.
"The ANC welcomes the position taken by President Ramaphosa to study the Public Protector’s report and make a decision on any further action which may include and but not limited to judicial review,” says party spokesperson Pule Mabe.
"President Ramaphosa’s reaffirmation of his respect for the Office of the Public Protector and his appreciation of the essential role it needs to play in promoting accountability and advancing the interests of the South African people is consistent with the views of the ANC on all Chapter 9 institutions.”
"The ANC is further emboldened by President Ramaphosa’s unwavering commitment and determination to fight all forms of corruption and malfeasance,” added Mabe.
In November 2018, Ramaphosa told Parliament that the donation was a payment from Bosasa to his son, Andile, for services rendered.
He corrected the statement later, by admitting that it was in actual fact a campaign donation.
