ANC ‘ready for conference’, assures Mashatile

ANC acting secretary-general Paul Mashatile says the governing party is ready for its upcoming national conference.
Mashatile briefed the media on Wednesday in Nasrec, where thousands of ANC delegates are expected to elect new leadership in December.
"We have closed Branch General Meeting (BGMs) as of 7 November. By today we are now standing at 85% of all branches in good standing having made it.
"Of course, I'll get the final reports by this evening where it may be slightly higher. But the requirement of the constitution says it is 70% and we have far surpassed the 70% that is required.
"That in itself gives you the 3000 branches that have gone through. We are quite pleased that out of the 3900 branches in good standing, we are close to the number that has gone through.

"We have given our branches enough time to go back. Where I sit we are ready for the conference and we will come back here to show you the final preparations."
The ANC's 55th national conference is set to get underway on 16 December.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to face off against former health minister Zweli Mkhize and national executive committee member Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma for the top job.
