ANC reinstates alleged VBS looters Msiza, Radzilani

The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed that its national executive committee (NEC) has decided to reinstate two top Limpopo party officials implicated in the looting of VBS Mutual Bank.

Danny Msiza
ANC Provincial Treasurer Danny Msiza and ANC Deputy Provincial Chairperson Florence Radzilani.

ANC Limpopo treasurer Danny Msiza and former Vhembe municipality mayor Florence Radzilani were fingered in the Great Bank Heist report by advocate Terry Motau.

The pair stepped down from their positions in 2018 following the release of the report.

ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule said on Wednesday that the NEC decided to reinstate Msiza and Radzilani due to a lack of criminal charges against them.

"You can't charge people because of allegations, and therefore that is why we said after almost two years these comrades must come back.

"But we are sensitive to the fact that during this VBS issue, a lot of people died and we are actually calling upon the law enforcement agencies to swiftly act against the perpetrators who might have participated in the killing of people in that area.”

Magashule addressed a media briefing on the party’s NEC meeting at Luthuli House in Johannesburg.

Maupa was a critic of the mayor and a strong opposer of the municipality investing in the now liquidated VBS Mutual Bank. The Municipality invested over R210-million into VBS, just over 38% of its annual revenue and is now facing bankrupcy. Maupa and his wife were sitting in a car when they were ambushed by unknown suspects.
