ANC rejects allegations of fraud levelled against Mashatile, Mabuza

The African National Congress (ANC) has described as malicious, allegations against treasurer Paul Mashatile and its deputy president David Mabuza published in the Mail and Guardian newspaper on Saturday.
The newspaper ran a report in its online edition of 8 May, under the headline ‘Mashatile, Mabuza accused of pocketing ANC donations’.
The governing party says there is "no iota of truth" in the allegations.
"The ANC considering laying a complaint with the Press Ombudsman," says the party's national spokesperson Pule Mabe.
"It is unfortunate that the Mail and Guardian has decided to cast unfair aspersions on the integrity of our leaders.
"It is a matter of concern that this article is based entirely on anonymous sources and failed to seek the comment of those it implicates.
"This, in our view, is a blatant violation of the Press Code".
Mabe says it's unfortunate that some in the media choose to pounce on the party's current financial challenges, by creating false narratives and bringing certain leaders into disrepute.
"We reject these false and baseless allegations with the contempt they deserve," says Mabe.
"The ANC reaffirms its confidence in both Comrade Mashatile and Comrade Mabuza.”
