ANC to seek legal advice over Joburg vote postponement
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The African National Congress (ANC) will be seeking legal advice after a council meeting meant to elect a new mayor for Johannesburg was postponed on Thursday.
The meeting was postponed until next week after the parties could not reach a consensus on what constitutes a majority vote.
However, the ANC says it will consider turning to the courts.
"We are seeking legal advice regarding going to court on an urgent basis to seek a declaratory order spelling out what majority means in relation to the voting process within council in terms of the Municipal Systems Act and the rules of council,” said Regional Secretary Dada Morero.
