ANC ‘should at least repay R260 000’ for Zimbabwe trip, claims DA

The Democratic Alliance (DA) believes the African National Congress (ANC) should pay back at least R260 000 for travelling to Zimbabwe on board an air force plane.
The ANC and Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula have come under fire after it emerged that she gave an ANC delegation a lift to Zimbabwe last month.
Mapisa-Ngcakula travelled to Zimbabwe on official state business
President Cyril Ramaphosa has reprimanded Mapisa-Nqakula, docking her three months’ pay and ordering her to ensure the governing party pays costs of R106 000.
“The DA rejects Mapisa-Nqakula’s gross under-calculations in determining the amount the ANC has to repay for abusing an air force Falcon-900 aircraft to travel to Zimbabwe on party political business,” says the DA’s Kobus Marais.

“R105 545,46 is not nearly enough for this brazen abuse of power and rare state resources.”
Marais believes the minister failed to factor in payments for landing rights, parking fees or on-board catering.
“Minister Mapisa-Nqakula has grossly under-calculated the total cost, based on irrelevant formulas.
“She also apportioned cost to the ANC based on the number of occupants.
“This does not make sense given the fact that without the ANC on board there would not have been a need for a massive air force jet in the first place.”
