ANC step-aside rule must be set aside - Dlamini-Zuma

ANC NEC member Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says they will push for the removal of the step-aside rule at the party’s upcoming national conference.
Dlamini-Zuma, who is also Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, was speaking to the SABC on Sunday.
In the 2017 conference, the ANC resolved that any member of the party must step aside when they are criminally charged.
She believes that the resolution is unfair as accused people are barred from party activities pending a criminal investigation.
"The problem with step aside is that you are charged, and then you step aside, but three years on, you are still waiting years for the trial to start. For me, that is injustice. I am saying justice must be done.
“Why do you arrest first and investigate for three years? Because by the time you arrest, you should be sure there is a case to answer and then will put that case, that case gets answered and the person is then cleared or if guilty they are found guilty.”
She says the resolution should be amended at the conference in December.
"I think the conference will look at the and issue as it stands, it is not right as it is being implemented is not right, is not only the step aside, it is the justice system. Even the public servants, they get arrested and the case gets postponed for a long time."
Dlamini-Zuma said she will run for the ANC presidency if she is nominated by branches.
