ANC to Sunday Times: Retract that gossip
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The African National Congress (ANC) has requested that the publication, The Sunday Times, withdraw the article which says senior party members are planning to remove President Cyril Ramaphosa.
"It's blatant lies," was the response of several structures within the ANC.
The governing party has now called on the publication to retract the article which details multiple meetings between senior officials in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Sunday Times reports the topic of the meetings were plans to oust President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Former President Jacob Zuma, secretary-general Ace Magashule and former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo were some of the officials seen in pictures allegedly present at the meetings.
"We urge the Sunday Times to immediately retract this story which is nothing but incoherent political gossip that has the potential to undermine the unity of the movement," says spokesperson Pule Mabe.
African National Congress Youth League's (ANCYL) Provincial Secretary in KwaZulu-Natal, Thanduxolo Sabelo is also seen in pictures attending the meeting.

Sabelo has since approached the press ombudsman to clear his name.
Journalist, Qaanitah Hunter says she has received death threats after the story was published.
I hear all the denials. But what I really don’t understand is why the SG of the ANCWL sent me a picture of a gun after I called her with questions and she denied even being in Durban on Thursday and even seeing Zuma. pic.twitter.com/eyAby3Qwuf
