ANC urges provincial leaders to enforce discipline at conference
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The ANC has called on all its provincial leaders to enforce discipline among delegates attending the party’s national conference.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe’s remarks follow the unruly behaviour displayed by some delegates on Friday.
Dozens of KZN delegates -- largely supporters of former president Jacob Zuma -- heckled Ramaphosa, chanting "Change! Change!" and banging on their tables.
KZN provincial chairperson Siboniso Duma was later forced to intervene and reprimand a delegate who was calling for national chairperson Gwede Mantashe to recognise him during Ramaphosa's speech.
Mabe says any possible collapse of the conference will be an indictment on all the party’s leaders, and not only the national executive committee.
The ANC is also running behind schedule following delays in the registration of delegates, but Mabe is adamant the conference won’t have to be extended.
"Will the ANC be able to conclude the work of this conference despite the several delays? Yes, we will," he said.
