On Thursday evening, Economic Freedom Front (EFF) Members of Parliament (MPs) delayed the State of the Nation Address (Sona) as they called for FW de Klerk to be removed from the house in reaction to his statement.

ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe, says the De Klerk Foundation continues to insult the people of South Africa by defending the former president's statement .

"Despite these ill advice statements by the FW De Klerk Foundation, we shall not be derailed from the project of continuing to rebuild our nation from the ashes of apartheid and its legacy of poverty."

"We shall continue to work together to ensure the human dignity of all our people and the task set and the task set in the constitution of our land to recognise the injustices of the past."

"The FW De Klerk should not interpret this as a license to insult the people of this country with its reactionary views."

Mabe calls for government to declare these statements hate speech.
