The party released the statement on Monday evening after initial reports that both members were shot and killed during the chaotic branch meeting on the weekend.

“The ANC in Waterberg can confirm that the 2 members are well and alive, and one of them has been released from hospital, while the other is recovering from hospital in Ellisras (Lephalale). The ANC in Waterberg refutes earlier reports that the 2 members have died from their gun wounds, as a result of this scuffle,” says ANC regional secretary Jacob Moabelo.

Since the incident, all ANC activities in the Lephalale Sub-Region have been put on hold until a safety plan is concluded for all Branch General Meetings.

“The ANC in Waterberg undertakes to draw a safety-plan that will serve as a guideline to convening all its BGMs, going forward. This isolated incident is an eye-opener and will serve as a yardstick that the Organisation will use to convene its future meetings in the sub-region,” adds Moabelo.
